Part of Bellevue's Overlake shopping corridor turned into a flashing wall of blue and red Sunday evening, as a heavy police response closed off a busy plaza along 148th Avenue NE. Multiple patrol cars, officers on foot, and at least one tactical-style vehicle converged on the area, tangling traffic and leaving several businesses behind yellow tape while police set up a perimeter.
Viewer video that circulated locally shows officers moving through a shopping-center parking lot, cruisers clustered around a cordoned-off zone and emergency lights washing over storefronts. The short clip was posted by TV station KIRO 7 on Sunday night.
What neighbors reported
Shoppers and nearby residents described a rapid, multi-agency response, saying officers used the Fred Meyer/Overlake parking lot as a staging area. Those accounts, along with notes from scanner listeners, showed up in community threads on Reddit, where users also mentioned traffic detours and shops temporarily taped off while officers worked.
Official details still limited
Authorities have not yet publicly explained what triggered the large response, or whether anyone was hurt or taken into custody, and KIRO 7's post did not include an official police statement. The incident remains under review, and this story will be updated when the Bellevue Police Department or other involved agencies release more information.
