Intersection Has A History Of Serious Crashes
The deadly wreck happened at a crossroads that has already been on the city’s radar.
In the City of North Las Vegas Local Road Safety Plan, the intersection of Craig Road and Simmons Street is flagged as a high-priority location because of multiple previous fatal and incapacitating-injury crashes. The report calls for signal upgrades, curb changes and better pedestrian features aimed at cutting down the number and severity of collisions there.
Charges And Investigation
As of the latest update from 8 News Now, detectives are still working to determine whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. Police said charges could be amended as test results and other evidence come in.
The Major Crash Investigation Unit is handling the case while detectives review surveillance footage, interview witnesses and complete forensic testing tied to the wreck.
State Plans Target Young-Driver Safety
The tragedy lands squarely in an age group Nevada traffic officials say they are already worried about.
Nevada’s statewide traffic-safety strategy identifies drivers under 21 as a continuing priority for reducing roadway deaths. It highlights speed, impairment and distraction as frequent factors in deadly crashes involving young people. According to the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety 2024–2026 triennial highway safety plan, the state is pushing a mix of enforcement, education and engineering strategies that mirror the kinds of fixes city planners are recommending for dangerous corridors like Craig Road.
North Las Vegas police are asking anyone who saw the crash or has video of it to come forward.
