Newly released court records are pulling back the curtain on a deadly night inside a Cypress home, describing in stark detail what investigators say unfolded in front of two children during an April 10 domestic violence killing in northwest Harris County.
The filings say the victim was on a live video call when she can be heard pleading, “Keith! Keith! I am sorry! We have kids together!” moments before the call suddenly ended. According to the records, one of the couple’s children then saw the father chase the woman into a bedroom, followed by the sound of gunfire. Investigators say two children were inside the home during the attack but were not physically injured.
Court documents obtained by Click2Houston identify 44-year-old Keith Washington as the suspect. Detectives describe finding signs of forced entry at the Cypress house, including a broken window and a black hat wedged in the blinds that investigators believe may have been worn by the attacker. The recordings from the victim’s live video call and the eyewitness account from the child at the scene are among the evidence cited in the filings used to secure warrants.
Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office arrived shortly after 10 p.m. on April 10 to the 14100 block of Cypress Falls Drive, where they found the woman dead, according to ABC13. Earlier coverage from the station identified the victim as Tynice Friday and reported that she had recently filed for divorce. The couple’s children, ages 6 and 18, were interviewed by investigators at the scene, ABC13 reported.
As detectives worked to track a suspect in the hours after the shooting, Flock license-plate readers reportedly captured a gray 2022 Chevrolet Silverado near the home. OnStar GPS data then helped authorities locate Washington inside that truck, according to the court filings described by Click2Houston. Investigators say a revolver was found within reach of the driver’s seat and that they obtained warrants for Washington’s phone records as part of a broader sweep of digital evidence.
Legal Status and What Comes Next
Washington has been charged with murder and booked into the Harris County Jail, according to ABC13. Court papers also reference an ongoing divorce case and a history of domestic violence.
Under Texas law, murder is defined in Penal Code Section 19.02 and is generally prosecuted as a first-degree felony. A first-degree felony carries a possible punishment of 5 to 99 years or life in prison, while capital murder under Section 19.03 can carry life or the death penalty, according to the Texas Penal Code. Prosecutors will decide how to proceed as investigators continue turning evidence over to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
Neighbors and Community Reaction
As the legal case moves forward, investigators have asked neighbors to review any doorbell camera or security footage that might help them tighten the timeline of the attack. “Those kids, they witnessed a tragedy they'll never forget,” Maj. Cedrick Collier said, according to FOX 26 Houston. Officials are urging the community to cooperate with detectives while also giving the family room to grieve in private.
