A violent argument on a quiet Upper Darby block turned deadly Monday when a woman was fatally stabbed and a man was taken into custody, police said. The assault unfolded along the 4600 block of South State Road and left the woman dead from her injuries as detectives processed a now cordoned-off crime scene.
Investigators told NBC10 Philadelphia that the woman died from her wounds and that police have not yet released the identities of anyone involved. According to the station, officers also said there is no ongoing threat to the surrounding community.
Scene and video show heavy police response
Chopper footage and doorbell video captured a heavy police presence, with officers surrounding a home and crime-scene tape sealing off part of the block. State Road stayed shut down for hours while detectives combed for evidence, 6abc/Action News reported.
Neighbors told the station they were rattled by the sudden flood of flashing lights and squad cars. “I can't believe that happened so close to home,” one resident said, summing up the mood on a block that is more used to evening traffic than homicide detectives.
Investigation, charges and resources
Upper Darby police described the incident as a “tragic and senseless act of domestic violence,” according to Patch, and said the suspect has been charged in connection with the killing.
For those impacted by domestic abuse, the Domestic Abuse Project of Delaware County runs a 24/7 hotline at (610) 565-4590.
How to help the investigation
Police say the investigation remains active and are asking anyone with information to contact the Upper Darby Police Department. The department lists an anonymous tip line at 610-734-3439 and a main number at 610-734-7693 on its contact page. Authorities say additional details will be released as they are confirmed.
