A Springfield delivery run ended in a prison term this week, as Charles Tanturri II was sentenced on May 21, 2026, to 10 to 15 years for the killing of 22-year-old Jalesseazay Posey. The shooting happened in the early morning hours of Sept. 25, 2025, behind apartments in the 1400 block of Delta Road in Springfield. Tanturri admitted to first-degree felony voluntary manslaughter with a firearm specification as part of a plea agreement.
The judge handed down the sentence after reviewing court records and evidence, according to the Springfield News-Sun. The outlet reports that Tanturri will serve his time at the Ohio State Penitentiary in Orient and that he had been held without bond before sentencing. Court entries reflect the plea change prosecutors negotiated earlier this spring.
Publicly available court records and 911 calls describe a chaotic confrontation, with Tanturri telling a dispatcher he had been in a “gunfight” and feared for his life, WHIO reported. Investigators say surveillance video shows Tanturri fired first while Posey’s hands were down, and that the two men appeared to be about 80 to 85 feet apart when shots were exchanged.
Court documents also show Tanturri’s 9mm Beretta Nano had been reported stolen in 2015, though officials say there is no evidence he knew the gun was stolen, according to court records cited by the Springfield News-Sun. A witness who was with Posey told police he had gone to meet someone to buy “some bud” and said Posey did not need protection, describing Tanturri as the primary aggressor.
Charges and plea deal
Tanturri was initially indicted on multiple charges, including murder and felonious assault, before agreeing to plead guilty to voluntary manslaughter with a firearm specification, according to WHIO. The deal took the top counts off the table and set the sentencing range the court relied on for the 10-to-15-year term.
Wider context
On-the-job shootings involving delivery workers remain relatively rare, but several high-profile cases this year have shown how quickly a delivery dispute or roadside clash can turn deadly. Similar incidents, including a DoorDash driver plea in Charlotte and a road-rage murder of a delivery driver in Michigan, have drawn national coverage from outlets such as WSOC and CBS News, highlighting how courts across the country have confronted similar fact patterns this year.
The Clark County investigation into the Delta Road shooting remains open, and authorities continue to ask anyone with information to contact the Springfield Police Division or submit an anonymous tip. Tanturri’s conviction and sentence effectively close the criminal case for now, although civil claims or appeals could still surface in the coming months.
