Earlier today, commuters along the Lake Erie shoreline and into southern Metro Detroit got an unplanned game of “now you see it, now you don’t,” as patchy, locally dense fog briefly swallowed up visibility. A quick warmup is on deck, though, with sun and a light southerly breeze expected to clear things out by mid-morning and send afternoon highs into the low 80s.
Fog Puts The Brakes On The Morning Drive
Drivers near Monroe and other lakeshore communities faced slowdowns and sudden visibility drops, with the National Weather Service flagging spots down to 1 mile or less. Motorists were urged to “slow down, use low beam headlights, and leave plenty of distance,” according to NWS Detroit. Forecasters expect the fog to lift over the remainder of the morning as the sun warms the surface.
Summerlike Heat Today, Then A Shot At Storms Wednesday
Once the fog clears, look for partly sunny skies and a warm, humid afternoon, with a high near 83°F and light south-southwest winds around 1–7 mph. A front moves in late Wednesday, bringing about a 20–30% chance of scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms in the late-day and evening hours. Most spots should only see brief, light rain, according to the NWS Detroit forecast.
Thursday Cooldown And A Breezy, Pleasant Weekend
Behind the front, a more seasonable air mass settles in on Thursday, with highs in the low 70s and northeast winds of 9–13 mph, gusting up to around 21 mph. The weekend is expected to stay mostly dry and comfortable, with daytime highs holding in the 70s, offering a mellow cooldown after the brief burst of early-summer warmth.
