Commonwealth, the two-story bar that helped nudge Fremont East from fringe territory into full-blown nightlife hub, just pulled the curtain back on a full makeover that leans hard into dark, vintage cocktail-club vibes. The revamp swaps in tufted sofas and refreshed vintage pieces, reworks the lighting and brings a century-old stained-glass showpiece back to life above the back bar.
Corner Bar Management, the local hospitality group behind Commonwealth, says the redesign touches every corner of the venue, from the main floor to the rooftop lounge to the hidden Laundry Room speakeasy. The company pitches the overhaul as part of its ongoing effort to keep downtown spots feeling fresh for locals who come weekly and visitors who blow through for a long weekend.
What You Will Notice on the Main Floor
Step inside and the main bar is now wrapped in dark wood paneling inset with laser-cut brass screens, patterned with floral and leafy designs. New Tiffany-style pendant lamps cast a warmer glow across the room. The back bar is topped by a 107-year-old stained-glass installation that was salvaged from a Philadelphia church, and the bathrooms picked up new wallpaper, lighting and doors. Photos on Commonwealth’s website highlight the reupholstered vintage seating and tufted sofas that now fill the floor.
Rooftop, the Laundry Room and the Lineup
Up on the rooftop, the bar face is fronted with custom emerald-green tile imported from London, turning the upstairs space into a jewel-toned perch above Fremont Street. Tucked inside, the Laundry Room speakeasy has rolled out a new cocktail menu titled “Fear and Laundry” and tapped Davey Francis as head mixologist. A rooftop residency called Birds of a Feather is set to run on Thursdays. The changes, along with accompanying photos, were detailed by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Why the Refresh Matters for Fremont East
Commonwealth has been one of the anchors in Fremont East’s rise into a full-on nightlife corridor, and this redesign signals that downtown operators are not letting the pace slack off. Corner Bar Management founder Ryan Doherty has steadily built a portfolio of downtown destinations, and the latest update keeps Commonwealth in the mix with newer late-night concepts and festival-fueled weekend crowds.
The bar still holds court on Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas and continues to run late on weekends, while the Laundry Room keeps earlier reservation windows for guests who want something a little more low-key.
