Anne Arundel Community College’s Board of Trustees has picked Dr. Tanya Millner to steer the ship, at least for now, naming her interim president effective July 1, 2026. She will step in as longtime president Dr. Dawn Lindsay retires on June 30, even as tensions with faculty are still simmering from a spring no-confidence vote.
In a message on the college’s presidential transition page, Anne Arundel Community College said the board voted unanimously to elevate Millner, who has served as provost and vice president for Learning since August 2021. Board chair A.
Faculty Vote And Grievances
As reported by the Campus Current, faculty at AACC passed a nonbinding vote of no confidence in Millner on March 4. In that vote, instructors criticized moves such as cutting classes with fewer than 15 students and rescinding some course-release arrangements that had allowed faculty to teach fewer than five classes.
According to the college’s March board minutes, the Faculty Organization president told trustees that 190 members took part in the vote. Of those, 131 voted in favor of no confidence, 37 opposed it, and 22 abstained. Faculty leadership characterized the ballot as a communication tool rather than a binding action.
Board Rationale And The Search
The board said it chose Millner based on her “institutional knowledge, academic background and commitment to students,” and has asked her to help clarify faculty representation and shared governance while major projects continue. As reported by The Baltimore Banner, AACC has launched a nationwide search with the goal of naming a permanent president by the end of the calendar year and bringing that leader on board by July 2027.
“I am honored to serve AACC during this important time,” Millner said, according to the college’s announcement, adding that she is committed to supporting students, employees, and the broader community as the college moves forward. Trustees and faculty will face early tests on issues such as course scheduling, shared governance, and planned technology upgrades as the search plays out. The official announcement is posted on the presidential transition page at Anne Arundel Community College.
