Late Tuesday night, a 43-year-old man sitting behind the wheel of his car in the Bronx suddenly found himself staring down the barrel of a gun, police said. The armed stickup unfolded at about 11:25 p.m. at Carter Avenue and East 173rd Street, within the confines of the NYPD's 44th Precinct, when a suspect walked up to the driver's side, demanded the man's property and his vehicle, then drove off in the car heading eastbound on East 173rd Street.
The holdup was flagged in a bulletin circulated by NYPD Crime Stoppers on May 29, which featured a brief write-up of the robbery and still images of the suspect. As detailed by NYPD Crime Stoppers on Facebook, the suspect displayed a firearm, took the victim's belongings, and then made off with the car. The post urges anyone who recognizes the individual or has information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers.

Prosecutors and recent auto-crime enforcement
The carjacking comes as Bronx law enforcement continues to go after auto-theft crews that target borough residents. As outlined by the Bronx District Attorney's office, an April initiative dubbed “Operation Pit Crew” led to indictments tied to hundreds of vehicle and parts thefts across the Bronx.
No arrests were listed in the Crime Stoppers bulletin, and police say the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the Tuesday night robbery is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at the numbers above or submit a tip online; the original alert is posted by NYPD Crime Stoppers on Facebook.
