A 55-year-old man was shot Saturday afternoon in northwest Baltimore, cutting through the quiet on Bateman Avenue and sending yet another neighbor to the hospital with a non-life-threatening wound, according to city police.
Officers were called to a home in the 3900 block of Bateman Avenue at about 5:30 p.m., where they found the man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was taken to an area hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening, according to FOX45. The station reported the call came in around 5:30 p.m. on May 30 and that investigators were working the scene into the evening. Authorities have identified a person of interest but have not released the victim’s name or the identity of that individual.
Citywide context
Gun violence remains a persistent problem in Baltimore, and incidents like the Bateman Avenue shooting are unfolding against a busy backdrop for detectives. Earlier Hoodline coverage noted that the city recorded April's shooting tally of four homicides and 29 nonfatal shootings, a pattern that keeps investigators leaning hard on community tips and video evidence. That ongoing pressure helps explain why the Citywide Shooting Unit and local detectives move quickly to canvass blocks after reports of gunfire.
How to report tips
Anyone with information about the Bateman Avenue shooting is asked to contact Baltimore police detectives at 410-396-2466 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP, according to FOX45.
