A 30-year-old long-haul truck driver from Hesperia was taken into custody last week after police served a search warrant at a home on Pinewood Drive, and detectives say they are now looking beyond California for possible additional victims. Authorities say the suspect was booked on suspicion of committing lewd or lascivious acts with a child, and investigators released his photo because his cross-country work routes could have put him in contact with children in multiple states.
According to NBC Los Angeles, detectives arrested Adair Fernando Garcia-Sanchez on Thursday after serving the warrant at a home in the 14300 block of Pinewood Drive at about 11:23 a.m. Police told the outlet that an arrest warrant had been issued as part of an active investigation out of Nebraska and that a juvenile who now lives in that state was allegedly victimized in Hesperia in 2024.
Arrest, Charges and Court Timeline
As reported by the Victorville Daily Press, court records show Garcia-Sanchez pleaded not guilty on April 28 to multiple child-molestation-related counts and to charges alleging possession or distribution of child pornography. The records also indicate he denied a special allegation of a prior serious felony conviction, and a preliminary hearing was set for May 7 at the Victorville courthouse.
Detectives Urge Possible Victims to Come Forward
Investigators are asking anyone who believes they may have been victimized or who has information about the case to contact the Hesperia Police Station. The city’s police page lists the station’s phone number as (760) 947-1500. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call or text “REPORT” or We-Tip at 844-909-3006, according to the City of Hesperia.
Why Long-Haul Cases Can Cross State Lines
Detectives note that long-haul routes can widen the pool of possible victims and make cases more complex, since tips and evidence may be scattered across several jurisdictions. Organizations such as Truckers Against Trafficking work to train commercial drivers and rest-stop workers to recognize and report suspicious behavior, something law enforcement officials say can help connect dots across state lines.
What Happens Next
The investigation remains active, and officials have not released additional details while detectives pursue leads. Court documents indicate Garcia-Sanchez was released on his own recognizance pending further proceedings, and prosecutors are expected to present evidence at the preliminary hearing, according to the Victorville Daily Press.
