An Oklahoma man who came to the Hill Country to stay with relatives is now headed to a Texas prison for decades after admitting to sexually abusing a young girl in the home.
Ignacio Corona, 58, was sentenced in a Comal County district court in New Braunfels to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl, according to prosecutors. The punishment was handed down this month following a hearing before a judge.
Corona pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated sexual assault of a child and four counts of indecency with a child by contact. A judge ordered a 50-year sentence on the aggravated sexual assault charge, with concurrent 20-year sentences on the indecency counts, according to the San Antonio Express-News. Prosecutors say the abuse took place over several months in 2025 while Corona was temporarily living with relatives in the Hill Country. The district attorney’s office told the outlet that Corona initially denied the accusations, then later spoke with investigators and admitted the abuse.
Prosecutors Say Evidence Convinced The Court
According to local authorities, the Comal County Criminal District Attorney’s Office laid out interviews and other materials that they said were critical in securing the plea and the lengthy sentence, per KENS5. Officials said, "The court went through a lot of evidence to lock the man up." Prosecutors and court staff also stressed that details that could identify the child victim will remain sealed to protect her privacy.
What The Law Allows
Under Texas law, aggravated sexual assault of a child is a first-degree felony, with a punishment range of five to 99 years or life in prison depending on the facts of the case, as outlined in Texas Penal Code §22.021. A conviction also triggers long-term consequences that include mandatory sex offender registration and ongoing reporting obligations.
The Comal County Criminal District Attorney's Victim Assistance program provides services and referrals for survivors and their families, offering help such as counseling resources, information on compensation, and guidance on protective orders, according to Comal County Victim Assistance. With the sentencing now entered in Comal County court, state prison officials will carry out the usual intake and placement process for Corona in the Texas prison system.
