A routine Wednesday morning in downtown Hillsborough turned into a full-on bank robbery investigation after a man walked into the First National Bank on South Churton Street just after 9 a.m., demanded cash from a teller and took off with the money, authorities say. WRAL reported that police have not said how much cash was taken and that no one inside the bank was injured.
According to a Town of Hillsborough news release, the robbery happened at the bank’s branch at 237 S. Churton St. Investigators say the suspect was dressed to stay anonymous, wearing jeans, a navy hoodie, black shoes, gray gloves, a dark fishing hat, sunglasses and a black neck gaiter.
Police have released a surveillance image of the man and are asking the public to help put a name to the face. CBS17 and other local outlets have shared the photo and the department’s call for tips as investigators work to track the suspect down.
Additional coverage from stations including WYFF has amplified the search, highlighting the suspect’s layered clothing and face coverings that make the image clear enough to study but tricky for quick identification.
