Houston is about to get a bold splash of Dutch orange. On matchdays, Netherlands supporters will rally on the Rice University campus for the official Oranje Fanwalk, gathering at Rice Stadium before setting off on a roughly 2.5-mile march to NRG Stadium. Organizers say there will be live entertainment before the walk, the famous double-decker Oranje bus will lead the procession, and everyone is invited to join the sea of orange-clad fans.
According to the Houston Chronicle, supporters will meet at 8 a.m. at Rice Stadium, with the march behind the Oranje bus scheduled to start at 8:45 a.m. The paper reports that the Dutch federation coordinated with Houston-area officials to map out the route and confirms that live entertainment will run on campus before the fanwalk steps off.
Rice's role and the city's welcome
Rice has been named an Official Houston World Cup 2026 Host City Supporter and will host fan activations and watch parties on campus, according to Rice University. "The arrival of the Oranje fans is going to bring incredible energy to our city," Chris Canetti, president of Houston's World Cup host committee, said in comments reported by the Houston Chronicle.
Oranje bus and fan numbers
The KNVB is gearing up for a sizable traveling crowd: DutchNews reports the association expects about 5,000 Netherlands supporters inside stadiums and roughly another 5,000 joining the fanwalks, many of them local Dutch-American fans. DutchNews also notes that the KNVB's double-decker Oranje bus recently reached Galveston after a month-long sea journey and will serve as the rolling centerpiece of the Houston marches.
Getting there and practical tips
Houston's METRORail Red Line runs directly to NRG Park, and fans can hop off at the NRG Park station for a short walk to the stadium, per METRO guidance. Parking around the venue is limited and expected to be pricey on matchdays, so officials recommend using rail, rideshare, or arriving early to dodge the worst of the traffic.
Anyone planning to join the fanwalk is urged to wear orange, pack water to handle the Houston heat, and build in extra time for possible road closures or security checks.
