Houston's Bludorn Hospitality Group is set to bring a new restaurant to the Pearl district, taking over the historic Liberty Saloon building at 239 E. Grayson St., which has sat empty since Carriqui closed in October 2025. According to the group's announcement, this will be Bludorn's first restaurant outside Houston. The team has not yet shared a name, menu or opening timeline.
In a news release cited by MySA, a Bludorn representative said the team is "honored to revitalize the storied space" and called San Antonio a "natural fit" for its style of hospitality. The outlet notes that Bludorn Hospitality Group, already known in Houston for Bludorn and Navy Blue, has rolled out multiple concepts in recent years. Company representatives told MySA they expect to share more specifics in the coming months.
The Liberty Saloon building has been vacant since Carriqui wrapped its three-year run at Pearl and closed on Oct. 19, 2025, according to KSAT. Carriqui operated inside the restored Boehler's Liberty Saloon and Liberty Bar structure, a late 19th century building that was moved and renovated before reopening as Carriqui in 2022. At the time, Pearl developer Silver Ventures said it would "communicate what's next" for the historic property. Now, locals finally have an answer.
Bludorn's Houston pedigree
Bludorn Hospitality Group is a Houston-based operator behind the acclaimed restaurants Bludorn and Navy Blue, and it lists four concepts on its official site. Bludorn Hospitality Group identifies its partners as chef Aaron Bludorn, Victoria Pappas Bludorn and Cherif Mbodji. The group is already working on a Bar Bludorn location in The Woodlands, which the Houston Chronicle notes as one of its first moves outside central Houston.
What comes next for the Pearl
As MySA reported, Bludorn plans to reveal the name, concept and opening timeline for the Pearl restaurant in the coming months. Neither the group nor Pearl's developer has publicly committed to an opening date or previewed a menu. For San Antonio diners, that leaves a bit of suspense about how a Houston import will adapt to a high-profile corner of the Pearl.
Why locals should pay attention
The Liberty Saloon building dates back to the 1890s, a piece of Pearl history highlighted by the San Antonio Report. Because the space is both large and highly visible, whoever occupies it can shape foot traffic and event energy across the district. Residents and regulars will be watching closely to see what kind of menu and price point Bludorn brings to San Antonio, and how the group puts its stamp on one of Pearl's most recognizable addresses.
