Humble is on the verge of a major internet glow-up, with Brightspeed crews saying a multineighborhood fiber build is almost wrapped and service already lit up for thousands of addresses. City officials and company reps say the new lines are cutting wait times for dependable broadband and making daily life smoother for local businesses. Residents and leaders are pointing to better remote work setups, more reliable telehealth visits and stronger school connectivity as the early wins.

In an April 16 news release, Brightspeed, headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., said the Humble buildout was about 90% complete and that Brightspeed Fiber Internet is already available to more than 42,000 Harris County homes and businesses. The company said the network will cover roughly 46,000 locations once construction is finished and added that crews first broke ground in April 2025, according to Brightspeed.

Humble Mayor Norman Funderburk has called the project transformative, saying reliable fiber has opened new opportunities for local businesses while improving access to education and health care, a point he made in a statement to local media. City officials also say Brightspeed coordinated with community stakeholders to limit construction headaches while the network went in, according to coverage from Community Impact.

What It Means For Local Businesses

Downtown Humble shop owners say they can feel the difference behind the counter. "As a Brightspeed Fiber Internet customer, the difference has been pivotal in running my business successfully," The Rowdy Chick owner Darian Ortiz said in a statement, according to Community Impact. Merchants told reporters that faster, more reliable connections are making it easier to process payments, handle online orders and jump on video calls with customers and vendors.

Where Brightspeed Fits Nationally

Brightspeed bills itself as one of the largest fiber builders in the country, with operations in 20 states on a platform the company says can reach more than 7.3 million homes and businesses. The operator announced in early April that it had passed three million fiber-enabled locations and has secured significant capital to speed up its buildout, according to PR Newswire and reporting from the Fiber Broadband Association.

What’s Next

Brightspeed says crews are in the final rollout phase and the company is working to switch on service for the remaining addresses in the Humble footprint. Residents can check availability and sign up on Brightspeed, while city leaders say they will keep an eye on construction impacts as teams finish splicing work and customer installations. Local broadcasters have also pointed to existing infrastructure challenges in the area, including prior incidents of copper theft that have knocked out service, highlighting the operational hurdles that come with major network projects, as reported by ABC13.
