Los Angeles police are turning to the public for help solving a brutal hit-and-run in Pico-Union, releasing new video of a May 28, 2025 crash that left a bicyclist in his 60s with severe injuries. The clip, posted as detectives renew their search nearly a year later, shows a white sedan slamming into the rider as he crosses 20th Street from Hoover, then speeding away west toward the I-10 onramp without stopping.
According to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department, the collision happened at about 3:15 a.m. near 20th Street and Hoover Street. Investigators say the bicyclist was riding southbound along the west sidewalk of Hoover and entered the crosswalk when a white sedan turned left, struck him in the intersection and kept going. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics took the man to a nearby hospital with severe injuries, according to the department, and the crash video was uploaded to LAPD’s YouTube page as part of the renewed plea for tips.
What the footage shows
The released footage lays out the turn and the moment of impact from multiple angles, including a still image that has circulated widely among local outlets. As reported by CBS Los Angeles, the driver continued west on 20th Street toward the Interstate 10 on-ramp instead of stopping at the scene. Detectives say the various views in the clip could help someone recognize the sedan or the person behind the wheel.
How to help
The city has authorized a standing reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the identification, arrest and conviction of the driver, officials say. Per the Los Angeles Police Department, anyone with information is urged to call the West Traffic Division and ask for Detective Holmes at (213) 473-0216, or leave an anonymous tip with L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
Detectives renewed their public appeal on Wednesday, nearly one year after the crash, saying that leads so far have been limited and that a fresh look at the video could finally shake loose a crucial tip. Local coverage of the latest push comes from MyNewsLA, which highlighted the LAPD’s clip and urged anyone who recognizes the vehicle to contact investigators.
