Police are asking for the public’s help to identify two people seen on surveillance video after an assault and robbery that started on the northbound 6 train platform at the Hunts Point Avenue station on April 19 and spilled onto the street. Investigators say a 35-year-old man was punched multiple times on the platform, then followed to a nearby McDonald’s, where the same pair allegedly hit him again and forcibly took his backpack. According to police, the suspects then ran into a building at 900 Hoe Avenue and have not yet been found.
NYPD Crime Stoppers posted surveillance images and a wanted bulletin on April 30, asking for tips about the case and noting the assault and robbery happened on April 19 on the northbound 6 platform, according to NYPD Crime Stoppers on Facebook. Tipsters are asked to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS or the Spanish line at 1-888-57-PISTA, or submit information online at Crime Stoppers.
Where it happened
The assault reportedly began on the northbound 6 train platform at Hunts Point Avenue station, the neighborhood stop on the Pelham Line near Hunts Point Avenue and Southern Boulevard, according to Wikipedia. The McDonald’s named in the bulletin at 925 Hunts Point Ave appears in public business directories on MapQuest, and the building at 900 Hoe Avenue is identified in property listings on Apartment Finder, a short walk from the station exits.
Transit crime trend
The bulletin lands amid a run of transit-area incidents in the Bronx this spring. Earlier in April, a separate knifepoint robbery near the same section of the borough was detailed in Predawn Hunts Point Stickup, and local reporting notes that police frequently shift foot patrols and transit coverage when cases cluster in specific neighborhoods.
