Two people were hurt early Sunday when a brawl erupted inside a Waffle House in northwest Harris County, turning the late-night staple into a taped-off crime scene as deputies investigated a possible stabbing. The diner was shut down for several hours, and both a customer and an employee were taken to the hospital, though authorities said their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
Deputies said the trouble started around 2:30 a.m., when an argument flared between an employee and a group of five or six customers at the Waffle House on West Little York near Fry in the Katy area, according to ABC13 Houston. Investigators told reporters that heated words turned into a physical fight that ended with the employee injuring one of the customers. The restaurant stayed closed while deputies combed through the scene.
Deputies: Possible stabbing under investigation
The Harris County Sheriff's Office is working to determine whether that customer was stabbed, ABC13 Houston reported. Deputies said the employee was also hurt, and the clash is being reviewed as a potential self-defense case. Investigators said all injured parties were expected to survive.
Late-night violence at diners remains a concern
Violence at 24-hour diners continues to be a headache for local law enforcement. In 2024, prosecutors indicted three men in a violent robbery spree that hit both a Waffle House and a Denny's, as reported by FOX 26 Houston. Police say large late-night crowds and alcohol can turn minor disputes into serious confrontations in a hurry, and they urge customers to step away and call 911 instead of jumping into a brewing fight.
How to help investigators
Anyone with information or video of the incident is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS or submit a tip through the group's website, according to Crime Stoppers of Houston. If you were at the restaurant and the situation escalated around you, authorities say to keep any footage you might have and share it with deputies, and always call 911 in an emergency.
Deputies stayed at the Waffle House for hours gathering evidence, and investigators say the case is still active. Local outlets and officials are expected to release more details as the probe moves forward.
