
A routine stop at a Lancaster County Sheetz turned deadly Saturday when a 75-year-old man was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer in the store’s parking lot along Old Philadelphia Pike in East Lampeter Township. The pedestrian was walking from the gas pumps toward the front of the store when he was hit and pronounced dead at the scene, and part of the 2400 block of Old Philadelphia Pike was blocked off while crash investigators worked the site.
What police say
According to a statement from the East Lampeter Township Police Department, the crash happened at about 1:00 p.m. on May 2. Investigators say a tractor-trailer driven by a 30-year-old man from Enola was traveling east through the Sheetz parking lot. The driver stopped for other vehicles and then, after traffic cleared, moved forward and struck the pedestrian.
Police identified the victim as 75-year-old Daniel Sweeney of Gordonville. Lancaster County Crash Team #2 (Manor/Hempfield) responded to assist, and officials say the crash remains under investigation.

Local coverage confirms first responders pronounced Sweeney dead at the scene and that investigators closed portions of Old Philadelphia Pike while they processed the parking lot, as WGAL reports. Authorities have not announced any charges or citations, and they have released few details about the driver or any potential contributing factors.
