
A late-night drive on Glenwood Avenue turned violent early Friday when a woman was shot while behind the wheel and rushed to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, Raleigh police said. Officers responded just after midnight to the area of Glenwood Avenue and Brownleigh Drive and shut down part of the road while they processed the scene. The investigation remains active as detectives work to determine what led to the shooting and whether the woman was specifically targeted.

Video obtained by ABC11 shows a Hyundai sedan with its rear window shattered and a bullet hole punched through the front windshield, with investigators placing evidence markers across the roadway. Authorities shut down part of Glenwood Avenue while officers collected evidence, and police have not released any suspect information, according to ABC11.

According to WRAL, the initial call came in around 12:12 a.m., and the shooting occurred off the highway near the Angus Barn, close to Raleigh-Durham International Airport. That description places the scene on a busy stretch of U.S. 70 where police have increased patrols this spring.
Glenwood's Recent Incidents
The corridor has seen multiple shootings this spring. The News & Observer reported that a 14-year-old was charged in an April 12 shooting in the Glenwood South district. Local coverage, including reporting on a pre-dawn shooting, has documented recurring late-night fights and stepped-up police responses along the strip.
