World Cup crowds are coming, and Metrolink is trying to make sure the party does not get stuck in traffic. The rail agency is rolling out extra trains and late-night runs to shuttle fans to FIFA World Cup matches and official fan-festival events in Los Angeles this summer. Enhanced service will operate on multiple match days between June 12 and July 10 and will also support the Heart of the City fan zone at Union Station from June 25–28. Riders are being told to expect packed trains, plan extra travel time, and arrive early on match days.
What Metrolink Is Adding
In its Thursday announcement, Metrolink said it will boost service on the 91/Perris Valley, Antelope Valley, Orange County, San Bernardino, and Ventura County lines during eight Los Angeles match days and several fan-fest dates. Schedules are being tweaked to include late-night departures so fans can get home after evening matches, along with additional trains on routes expected to see the heaviest demand. As reported by MyNewsLA, officials say the service plan is designed to cut traffic and keep people moving across the region.
Dates, Lines And Post-Game Runs
Metrolink’s World Cup travel hub spells out the enhanced train dates: June 12, 15, 18, 21, 25–28, July 2, and July 10. It also details late-night and post-event departures geared to specific match times. The agency has posted date-by-date train numbers and departure times for the 91/Perris Valley, Antelope Valley, Orange County, San Bernardino, and Ventura County lines and is urging riders to confirm schedules before heading out. Transfers And The SoFi Shuttle
Fans do not have to stop at Union Station. Riders with a valid Metrolink ticket can transfer to LA Metro for direct bus service to Los Angeles Stadium (SoFi Stadium), and Metro will run dedicated match-day shuttles from Union Station to the venue. Metro’s World Cup guide notes that walk-up bus fares are $1.75 and that transfers from rail at designated pick-up spots are included. Check LA Metro for shuttle pick-up locations, boarding times, and fare details.
Officials' Comments
Metrolink Board Chair Doug Chaffee said the agency will play a “critical role” in connecting locals and visitors as Los Angeles hosts matches, framing the added trains as part of a larger regional effort to keep fans flowing to and from games and events. Those remarks came alongside the schedule rollout and coordination with Metro and other transportation partners, according to MyNewsLA.
Heart Of The City Fan Zone
The Heart of the City fan zone at Los Angeles Union Station is set for June 25–28, promising live match screenings, cultural programming, and food vendors spread through the station plaza and surrounding areas. Union Station and the LA World Cup host committee are promoting the fan zone as a transit-first destination, which is why regional rail service and shuttle links are baked into the planning. For event details and ticketing information, see Union Station.
Fares And Rider Tips
There is no special World Cup fare for these trains. Regular Metrolink pricing applies, including the SoCal Day Pass, which offers unlimited rides for $15 on weekdays and $10 on weekends. The day pass is available through Metrolink’s app and at station ticket machines, and existing weekend promotions such as Kids Ride Free remain in place. Metrolink advises riders to arrive 20–30 minutes before departure, buy tickets in advance when possible, and check service alerts for real-time updates.
