
A late-night head-on collision on U.S. Highway 52 near the Northeast Connector in Albemarle left one driver dead and another seriously injured Wednesday, after investigators say a northbound vehicle crossed the center line and slammed into an oncoming car.
Police Identify the Victim
According to a press release from the City of Albemarle, the woman killed in the crash was 34-year-old Tiffany Mauldin of Stanly County. The city said the wreck happened May 27 at approximately 11 p.m. when a northbound vehicle crossed the center line and struck a southbound vehicle. The northbound driver, identified as Mauldin, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the southbound car was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
"No additional information is available at this time," the city added in its statement.
Officers Seek Clues in Deadly Collision
WCCB Charlotte reported that officers responded to U.S. Highway 52 near the Northeast Connector and confirmed the basic outline of the crash, including that one driver died at the scene and the other was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. Police are asking anyone who may have seen the collision or events leading up to it to call 704-984-9500.
