Live Nation and First Avenue Entertainment want to drop a new 5,500-capacity indoor music venue into Seattle's SoDo scene, setting their sights on The Boxyard across from T-Mobile Park. The project is pitched as the missing middle between theaters and full-blown arenas, with a target opening in 2029, according to KING5.

In a May 14 press release from Live Nation, the companies say the venue will plug directly into the Boxyard complex, which already houses Victory Hall, Hatback Bar & Grille and other game-day hangouts. The new room is being designed by Live Nation’s Blueprint Studio in partnership with LMN Architects.

Design and programming

Planned as a purpose-built stop for artists "transitioning between theaters and arenas," the venue is slated to include flexible staging and upgraded production infrastructure, according to the release. Jeff Trisler, Live Nation’s regional president for the Pacific Northwest, said in the announcement that "Seattle has helped shape the sound of modern music, launching artists who have influenced culture worldwide."

Economic boost and jobs

An independent analysis by Oxford Economics, cited in the same announcement, estimates the venue would generate roughly $129 million a year in total regional impact. That figure includes about $70 million in fan spending and $12 million in tax revenue, and the project is projected to support more than 700 jobs. Developers say the building would add year-round programming and connect with Victory Hall for game-day activations.

Port officials and business groups are in the early conversation phase. Port of Seattle Commission President Ryan Calkins and the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce offered cautious support in the release, stressing the need for coordination that protects freight mobility and the working waterfront. First Avenue Entertainment's Trevor Gooby said the project "builds on that foundation" and is intended to reflect SoDo's character as the partners work with neighborhood groups and city leaders.

For now, this is a statement of intent rather than a done deal. Designers and economic consultants are on the board and 2029 is circled on the calendar, but formal permit applications, construction schedules and public meetings have not yet appeared. We will be watching city records and neighborhood outreach as the plan moves from concept toward the approval stage.
