South Philly’s fried chicken game is about to get a little crispier. Love & Honey Fried Chicken is bringing its chef-driven, hand-dredged bird to East Passyunk Avenue, with a new outpost set to open on May 22 at 1523 East Passyunk. The franchised shop is moving into the longtime Black N' Brew space and will serve up the brand’s signature tenders, sauces, and tater-tot sides to neighbors who have been walking past an empty storefront for months. The opening continues a steady expansion that has taken Love & Honey beyond its Northern Liberties roots and into the suburbs and nearby states.
As reported by NBC10 Philadelphia, the East Passyunk shop officially opens May 22 and will be run by local franchise owner Nafee Hossain. Hossain told the station, "At Love & Honey, we've created a place where exceptional food and genuine hospitality meet," adding that the team is excited to bring the concept to South Philly. NBC10 Philadelphia also notes that the chain already has locations in Northern Liberties, Newtown, Bryn Mawr, and Cranston, R.I.
From Northern Liberties To A Growing Franchise
According to Love & Honey Fried Chicken, chefs Todd and Laura Lyons founded the brand in 2017 and built a loyal following at a Northern Liberties walk-up that leaned hard into small-batch cooking. That same approach carries into the franchise model, with the owners emphasizing hand-dredged chicken and house-made sauces.
A franchise press release via Business Wire notes that the company has been awarding franchises across the region, including recent openings in Newtown and Cranston. The East Passyunk shop is part of that broader push, which has quietly turned a single neighborhood counter into a multi-state operation.
What It Means For Passyunk Avenue
The address at 1523 E. Passyunk, left empty after Black N' Brew closed, is owned by the Passyunk Avenue Revitalization Corporation, which has been repositioning properties up and down the corridor, as reported by The Philadelphia Inquirer. PARC's executive director told the paper that adding Love & Honey helps fill in some of the gaps in the street’s day-to-day offerings, a nod to the fact that even a destination dining strip needs reliable, casual options.
The East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District lists Love & Honey at the 1523 Passyunk address in its directory, signaling that the fried chicken shop is officially part of the neighborhood’s retail lineup, right alongside coffee, pizza, and everything in between.
When To Go
Love & Honey's South Philly page puts the new restaurant at 1523 East Passyunk Ave and lists daily hours that start at 11 a.m., along with a local text line and online ordering for pickup and catering, per the chain's site. Diners can expect the same lineup of tenders, wings, sandwiches, and tater tots that regulars know from the other locations.
