A late-night argument in Dunbar turned into a shotgun scare on Lowery Drive when, according to state troopers, a Fayette County man pulled a 12-gauge and opened fire. Investigators say 23-year-old Sebastian Kozakovsky of Connellsville fired multiple rounds, including one that was aimed directly at a person, before he was arrested and taken to the Fayette County Jail.
According to a release from the Pennsylvania State Police, troopers were called out around 1:53 a.m. for reports of a disturbance and several gunshots on Lowery Drive. The release states that Kozakovsky grabbed a 12-gauge shotgun during the dispute, threatened two people, and fired several rounds, with one shot directed at a victim, before officers took him into custody. Local emergency crews assisted while troopers secured the scene and launched their investigation.
Charges and court date
Online court records reviewed by WPXI show Kozakovsky is charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, making terroristic threats, simple assault, and disorderly conduct. Records indicate he was denied bail after a judge found him to be both a flight risk and a danger to himself and others. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing next Wednesday, May 20, and remains in the Fayette County Jail as the case moves forward.
Legal implications
Under Pennsylvania law, attempted homicide is prosecuted as a criminal attempt under Title 18 of the Crimes Code, outlined by the Pennsylvania General Assembly, and it can carry significant penalties depending on the underlying offense and any resulting harm. Related charges, such as aggravated assault and terroristic threats, come with their own potential prison time and can stack the legal exposure if prosecutors secure convictions. The upcoming preliminary hearing will determine whether a magistrate finds enough probable cause to send the case along to the district attorney for formal felony prosecution.
State troopers say the investigation is still active and are asking anyone with information or useful video from the area to contact investigators. Neighbors in the Uniontown area said the overnight gunfire shook up the block, and local officials used the incident as a reminder that state troopers and municipal police work closely together on serious calls. This story will be updated as more details are released by law enforcement and the courts.
