A Monday night inside McKeesport's Harrison Village housing complex turned chaotic when two women were badly hurt in separate attacks, one shot twice and the other beaten so severely she was left in critical condition, according to county police.
Officers and medics rushed to the public-housing development a little after 8 p.m., following reports of violence inside the complex. Detectives later said everyone involved in the incidents has been identified and that the investigation is very much still active.
Police response and victims
Allegheny County police told WPXI they were called to Harrison Village at about 8:17 p.m. When they arrived, officers found a woman who had been shot twice in the torso. According to the station, she was taken to a nearby hospital and was listed in stable condition while detectives locked down the area and worked the scene for evidence.
Investigators told the outlet they have identified all of the people involved and are trying to assemble a clear timeline of what led up to the gunfire.
Assault victim in critical condition
As reported by WTAE, first responders also discovered a second adult woman inside the complex who had suffered blunt-force trauma. She was rushed to a hospital and was in critical condition, according to the station.
WTAE noted that both the shooting and the assault happened within Harrison Village and that detectives were interviewing witnesses and reviewing available video as part of the case. Police have not announced any arrests or filed charges while the investigation continues.
Seen in a wider pattern
McKeesport has already seen several shootings this year, including a March incident that left two people injured, one of them a 10-year-old, according to KDKA. Neighbors in those earlier cases described tense confrontations, and authorities have repeatedly urged residents to share any tips that could help solve violent crimes in the city.
