Meta just dealt another big blow to the Seattle-area tech scene, cutting 1,395 jobs across Washington state and hitting offices in Seattle, Bellevue and Redmond, along with remote workers. Employees were notified last Wednesday, with July 22 listed as the official separation date, as part of a larger corporate shakeup inside the company.

According to filings with the Washington State Employment Security Department, the cuts include about 699 positions tied to Meta's Bellevue site, roughly 215 at one Seattle office, 206 in Redmond, 44 at another Seattle location and approximately 231 remote Washington workers, as reported by KIRO 7. The station notes the listings were filed with state officials and that it is reaching out to Meta for comment.

Part of a companywide reorganization

These local cuts are one slice of a broader round of companywide reductions that Meta began around May 20. That wave is expected to eliminate roughly 8,000 roles globally as the company shifts resources toward artificial intelligence and infrastructure, according to Reuters. Reporting indicates the effort targets management layers and legacy functions while speeding up investment in AI development.

Local history and background

In March, a previous Washington WARN filing flagged another round of Meta cuts in the region, accounting for about 331 jobs, many tied to Reality Labs. Hoodline covered that earlier notice in the piece Meta Axes 331 Washington Jobs, which outlined how Meta had been shifting focus away from some metaverse efforts toward wearables and AI-related work.

What the WARN filings mean for workers

WARN notices are formal alerts that spell out the employer, affected locations, headcount and effective separation date for mass layoffs. The Washington State Employment Security Department maintains the public WARN database where these filings live. The agency and local WorkSource centers provide unemployment, retraining and job-placement resources for people caught up in large-scale cuts, according to the Employment Security Department. Affected employees should also check in with their HR teams about severance, internal-transfer options and benefits eligibility.

KIRO 7 says it has reached out to Meta for comment and will update its report as more details emerge. We will update this story if Meta or state officials provide additional information.
