Houston police are investigating a deadly stabbing after a man was found slain in the backseat of a vehicle inside a Midtown parking garage Sunday afternoon.
Officers were sent to check out a report of a suspicious vehicle in a garage on Crawford Street around 3:30 p.m. Sunday. When they opened the car, they found a man in the backseat with what appeared to be a stab wound, according to ABC13. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene, and homicide detectives were called out to take over.
Officials have not released the victim’s name, saying they are waiting for next-of-kin notifications to be completed before making his identity public.
Investigation under way
Detectives with the Houston Police Department’s Homicide Division are now leading the case, according to Click2Houston. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences is handling family notification before authorities formally release the victim’s identity.
Investigators have not shared any suspect information so far and are canvassing the garage for witnesses and surveillance video, Click2Houston reports.
Recent parking-garage attack in Houston
The killing comes on the heels of another high-profile garage stabbing in the city. Earlier this month, a Houston Methodist employee was stabbed inside a Texas Medical Center parking garage, and investigators later arrested a suspect in that case, according to ABC13.
How to help
Anyone with information about the Midtown killing is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS, according to Click2Houston. Authorities say anyone with surveillance footage or tips should reach out to investigators and not approach potential suspects.
