Years after a late-night ambush left two young women dead on San Antonio's northwest side, police are once again asking for help to solve the case.

The victims — 24-year-old Arbranique Johnson and 26-year-old Roniqua Simms — were shot after the white Mazda they were riding in was chased into the 3300 block of Fallen Leaf Lane on May 29, 2021. Investigators said no suspects have been publicly identified.

Night Out Turns Deadly

According to police, Johnson and Simms had been at the 4th Quarter Sports Bar on Wurzbach Road to mourn a loved one. They left the bar around 2:45 a.m. when another vehicle began following the Mazda and firing at it.

The car crashed in the 3300 block of Fallen Leaf Lane, and the gunfire continued. Two other occupants were wounded and taken to University Hospital. The sequence of events was detailed by the San Antonio Express-News.

Detectives Renew Public Plea

On Tuesday, the San Antonio Police Department's Homicide Unit renewed its appeal for tips, asking anyone with information about who was in the suspect vehicle or what triggered the shooting to come forward. Investigators said no suspects have been publicly identified, according to KENS5.

According to Crime Stoppers of San Antonio, tipsters can remain anonymous, and a reward of up to $5,000 is available for information that leads to felony arrests.

Grieving Family Still Waiting For Answers

Johnson's aunt has urged anyone who knows what happened that night to speak up, describing her niece as someone who had plans for graduate school and a small business.

"I forgive you. I don't understand why it happened. I don't care why it happened. She should be here," the relative told KSAT. The family continues to press investigators for answers as the case remains unsolved.

Part Of A Deadly Year

The killings unfolded during a year in which San Antonio saw a spike in homicides. Preliminary data showed about 160 homicides in 2021, roughly 23% more than in 2020.

Local reporting captured comments from police officials who described many of the year's deaths as "random, spontaneous acts of violence," as outlined by the San Antonio Report.
