What started as a worried neighbor’s call over an open garage door ended in a grim discovery inside a quiet Westside Jacksonville subdivision late Saturday night.
Two people were found dead inside a home in the 4100 block of Sherman Hills Parkway West after officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office conducted a welfare check, according to authorities. Officers entered the house and discovered two unresponsive people in the back of the residence. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue responded and pronounced both individuals dead at the scene, and homicide detectives remained at the home on Sunday as the investigation continued.
How the call unfolded
According to the sheriff’s office, the chain of events began around 10 p.m., when a neighbor reported that the home’s garage door had stayed open all day while the lights inside were off. After knocking on the door and getting no response, the neighbor contacted the occupants’ daughter, who came to the scene and let officers inside.
During a protective sweep of the home, officers found two people unresponsive in the back of the house. The sheriff’s office said the incident appears to be isolated and that there is no outstanding threat to the community, according to News4JAX.
Where investigators stand
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue confirmed both people were dead at the scene. Homicide detectives are handling the investigation, working to determine what happened inside the Westside home.
