Flames tore through a house in Orange on Friday morning, then clawed their way into nearby trees, sending a thick plume of smoke across the neighborhood and rattling residents near one of the village’s busier crossroads. Neighbors reported seeing heavy smoke as multiple fire companies raced to the scene near the intersection of Harvard and Brainard roads. Crews quickly knocked down the main body of the fire, then stayed on site for hours chasing hot spots in the yard and along the tree line.
Video Shows Flames Racing Into Trees
Video from FOX8 captures flames shooting up into the trees as firefighters stretched hose lines to keep embers from hopping fences into neighboring yards. The footage centers on the Harvard and Brainard area, where engines and crews lined Brainard Road and focused on holding the fire at the property edge. Residents, some with phones out, watched from a distance while firefighters worked over smoldering brush and hanging limbs.
Home Badly Charred, Cause Still Under Review
According to News 5 Cleveland, the fire heavily damaged a home on the 4000 block of Brainard Road, leaving a portion of the roof collapsed and smoke still pouring from the structure even after the visible flames were out. Authorities have not yet released a cause, and as of Friday, it was not clear whether anyone was injured. The station also reports that a GoFundMe has been launched to support the family affected by the blaze.
Village Fire Station Plan Looms In Background
Per Orange Village's Spring 2026 newsletter, the village previously secured property at the corner of Brainard and Harvard for a planned new fire station, a project officials say is intended to modernize local emergency response. That investment in public-safety infrastructure now sits just up the road from Friday’s fire scene, as village leaders and investigators look over what happened. Fire officials and other agencies are expected to release additional details once they wrap up their review.
Residents were asked to steer clear of the immediate area while firefighters worked, and traffic through the neighborhood was disrupted during the response. This story will be updated as authorities share more information about the cause of the fire and any possible injuries.
