A detached garage in Pacoima went up in flames Saturday afternoon, drawing a swarm of firefighters to Filmore Street as crews rushed to keep the blaze from jumping to a nearby home.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, units were dispatched to 13775 W Filmore St at about 2:55 p.m. after reports of smoke. Firefighters arrived to find the detached garage already well involved with fire and quickly launched an offensive attack to stop the flames from reaching the adjacent house. Officials said all occupants were out when crews pulled up, and no injuries were reported.
The Filmore Street response was led by Battalion 12, listed as the incident commander, with resources from Fire Station 98 assigned to the scene, according to the department. Crews worked to knock down the main body of fire and then turned to chasing remaining hot spots so the blaze would not flare back up.
LAFD also pushed out the same incident alert and a map of the location on its official X account, LAFD on X, where the department reiterated that there was no extension into the primary residence and that all occupants were accounted for.
A busy stretch for Pacoima
The Filmore Street fire is the latest in a run of structure calls in the north Valley. Earlier this month, a large blaze tore through an auto salvage yard on Montague Street, sending a tower of black smoke over the neighborhood, as reported by ABC7 Los Angeles. The same incident was covered locally in more detail in a Pacoima warehouse blaze report, underscoring how frequently residents have been seeing fire rigs roll through the neighborhood.
Between industrial properties and tightly packed residential blocks, Pacoima has seen multiple recent responses as firefighters work to stop flames from racing through older buildings and crowded streets.
What officials say and next steps
LAFD has not yet released a cause for the Filmore Street garage fire, and the initial alert did not state whether investigators had been requested. Crews stayed on scene for overhaul and to confirm that no hot spots were left smoldering, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Neighbors should expect continuing emergency vehicle activity and some short term traffic impacts in the immediate area while firefighters wrap up operations. Anyone with information about the blaze is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles Fire Department or local law enforcement.
