A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed Sunday evening in Parkland after deputies say he was robbed along a neighborhood street. First responders tried life-saving measures, but the teen was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Pierce County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched around 7:13 p.m. after multiple callers reported a male lying in the roadway in the 10200 block of Sheridan Avenue South. The sheriff's office has classified the case as a homicide and says detectives have launched an active investigation.
What investigators say
Initial information from a sheriff's spokesperson indicates the teen had been walking along the road when a car pulled up and someone inside called him over. Unknown suspects then robbed and shot him before driving away, according to The News Tribune. Responding deputies attempted to save the boy's life, but he died where he fell, the paper reports.
Search for witnesses and surveillance
Detectives are canvassing the neighborhood for any clues, going door to door and looking for cameras that may have captured the suspects or their vehicle, according to the sheriff's blotter post. No arrests have been announced, and investigators say the case remains very much active.
Local context
The killing is one of several violent incidents to hit Pierce County this spring. In March, for instance, KIRO 7 reported that an 18-year-old man was found shot and killed in Parkland in a separate case. Law enforcement officials say tips from the public, along with video from doorbell and traffic cameras, can be crucial in moving investigations like these forward.
Anyone with information or footage related to Sunday’s shooting is urged to contact the Pierce County Sheriff's Office or submit tips through local tip lines, officials said. The News Tribune reports that investigators are specifically looking for any home or business surveillance that might show the suspects or their vehicle.
