A quiet stretch near Fair Park turned hectic earlier today when a house fire sent a Dallas firefighter to the hospital with a minor injury and forced the home’s resident to scramble to safety.
Crews rolled up to the home in the 2600 block of Birmingham Avenue around 1:50 a.m. and were met with heavy flames tearing through the rear of the house, according to CBS News Texas. Firefighters pulled hand lines and launched an offensive attack, working for about an hour before the blaze was finally knocked down.
The resident made it out and was reported to be OK. One firefighter, however, suffered a minor injury while working the scene and was taken to a hospital for evaluation, Dallas Fire-Rescue said. The American Red Cross was called in to help the resident after the fire, while investigators started sorting through the damage to determine what sparked it.
Risks for crews in early-morning fires
Overnight and early-morning structure fires can turn dangerous fast, especially when crews are pushing inside homes that are already well-involved. In March, a house fire in East Oak Cliff left one person dead and a firefighter injured, The Dallas Morning News reported, underscoring how even routine residential calls can carry serious risk.
Investigation and next steps
Dallas Fire-Rescue said the cause of Friday’s fire remains under investigation. Officials did not immediately release the injured firefighter’s name or provide additional details on the firefighter’s condition. As reported by CBS News Texas, crews wrapped up suppression efforts after roughly an hour, and investigators remained at the scene to continue their work.
