In the quiet hours before sunrise on Friday, Baltimore police recovered the body of a man from the Inner Harbor near Pier 4, on the 600 block of East Pratt Street. The remains were taken to the city Medical Examiner’s Office as detectives launched an active investigation into how he died.
What police say
According to WBAL-TV, officers responded around 3:30 a.m. and found the man floating near Pier 4. Police said the body was transported to the Medical Examiner to confirm his identity and determine the cause of death, and investigators reported no immediate, visible signs of trauma.
Recent pattern at the harbor
This latest discovery adds to a troubling string of water recoveries at the Inner Harbor this spring. Earlier in April, officers pulled another body from the harbor that was later identified as a missing man, and authorities initially said foul play was not suspected in that case, according to CBS Baltimore. Together, the incidents have renewed questions about safety along the waterfront and the reach of patrol coverage there.
What comes next
Investigators said the Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the man’s identity and cause of death, while detectives continue canvassing the area, checking for surveillance footage, and following up on any witness tips. Police are asking anyone with information to contact investigators, and updates are expected as the case develops, according to WBAL-TV.
