A Houston Methodist employee was rushed to the hospital early Monday after being stabbed in a Texas Medical Center parking garage, authorities said, rattling staff at the massive medical hub just as the workday was getting started.
The attack was reported around 6:47 a.m. on May 11 on Level 5 of Garage 1 at the Texas Medical Center campus near 6519 Fannin Street. The victim, who suffered upper-body wounds, was taken to Memorial Hermann, and investigators say they are still looking for the attacker.
Police are searching for a suspect described as a Black man with a beard who was wearing a red or orange hoodie, black pants and black sneakers, according to Click2Houston. The outlet reports the stabbing came in as a 911 call and that officers with the Texas Medical Center Police Department responded to the scene.
In a message to staff, Houston Methodist Executive Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer Roberta L. Schwartz told employees that “TMC authorities are working closely with local law enforcement to investigate” and that “there is no indication of an ongoing threat to our campus,” as reported by Click2Houston. Schwartz added that security patrols would be stepped up in the area. Staff were urged to report any suspicious activity to their supervisors or to Houston Methodist Public Safety.
Medical center context
The Texas Medical Center is a tightly packed hub of hospitals and research institutions, and Houston Methodist’s flagship campus sits in the middle of it all, according to Houston Methodist. Its parking garages serve employees, patients and visitors around the clock, a constant churn that officials say can complicate both security planning and how quickly they can respond when something goes wrong.

Tips can be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477), and the Houston Police Department’s online contact page offers additional reporting options.
