A 40-year-old man was found shot to death on a quiet stretch near Splendora on Thursday, and a suspect is now in custody, according to authorities. Deputies responded to the 15800 block of E. Relza Drive, where they discovered the victim and tried life-saving measures. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and the area was quickly locked down as investigators moved in to collect evidence.
Deputies found the man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office told Click2Houston. A suspect was taken into custody, and investigators told the outlet there is no ongoing threat to the public. Sheriff’s deputies remained on scene into Thursday evening, continuing to work the case.
Major Crimes Unit Leading the Probe
According to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, the Major Crimes Unit is the team that gets called in on suspicious deaths and homicide investigations across the county. The unit is trained in crime-scene reconstruction, bloodstain analysis, and other specialized techniques used to piece together violent-death cases.
That group typically works alongside patrol deputies and crime-scene investigators on cases like Thursday’s shooting, handling the painstaking work of sorting evidence, interviewing witnesses, and mapping out what happened in the moments before and after a killing.
Scene Secured, Officials Say No Threat
Authorities told Click2Houston the scene has been secured and there is no threat to nearby residents. Deputies attempted to revive the victim at the location, the outlet reports, but those efforts were unsuccessful.
Hoodline coverage of the region shows Major Crimes detectives have been busy with other serious incidents nearby; for example, Porter Man Nabbed detailed a May arrest tied to a deadly roadside hit-and-run on U.S. 59. Cases like that highlight how county investigators routinely back up smaller local departments on violent-death probes and other major crimes. Officials continue to urge residents to speak up if they have information that could help clear open cases.
Anyone with information about Thursday’s shooting is asked to contact the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency dispatch at (936) 538-5900 or the agency’s main line at (936) 760-5800, per the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. Tips can also be submitted through Montgomery County Crime Stoppers. Authorities say they will release additional details when appropriate, and the investigation remains ongoing.
