Sunday, May 31, 2026, started on a crisp note across Raleigh, with mostly clear skies and a cool 59°F reading at Raleigh-Durham International Airport. Expect mostly sunny skies through the day and a high near 80°F this afternoon, with a gentle southeast breeze around 3 to 7 mph.
We first flagged this setup in our May 29 update, and this forecast tightens the timing and pinpoints where the rain is most likely to move in. For the full backstory on the incoming front, check out our earlier May 29 forecast.
Monday Showers And Thunderstorms
Showers and scattered thunderstorms are most likely on Monday, June 1, 2026, with the greatest coverage expected south and east of Raleigh. Storm activity should pick up after 11 a.m. and carry through the afternoon and evening. Most guidance keeps rain chances near 60%, with light amounts for many spots, but isolated thunderstorms could drop around 0.5 to 1 inch of rain over the Coastal Plain. Northwest portions of the Piedmont may see very little, if any, rainfall, according to the National Weather Service.
This Week's Temperature Trend
Once Monday's front slips through, highs fall back into the 70s on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, and hold a few degrees below normal through Wednesday, June 3. A strengthening surface high and a return to southerly winds then crank temperatures into the upper 80s and low 90s by Friday and Saturday, June 5 to 6, so expect a quick late week warm-up.
What To Pack And How To Plan
Today looks comfortable for just about any outdoor plan, no rain gear required. For Monday, though, it is smart to keep an umbrella handy or have an indoor backup if you will be in the southern or eastern suburbs during the afternoon and evening. No watches or warnings are in effect right now, but if you have travel or outdoor events scheduled Monday afternoon, stay tuned to updates, since localized downpours and lightning remain on the table.
