State fire marshal points to tunnel fan failure
Investigators with the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal said they believe an electrical or mechanical failure in the chicken house’s tunnel fan likely sparked the blaze. The fire was reported just before 1 p.m. on Sunday and took about 75 to 90 minutes, along with roughly 60 firefighters, to bring under control, according to WBOC.

A release from the state fire marshal’s office put the flock loss at about 35,000 birds and valued the chickens at about one dollar each, or roughly $35,000 of the total loss. Overall damage to the operation is pegged at $500,000. The release said the interior of the building caught fire and the structure was ultimately leveled, WBAL NewsRadio reported.
