A 16-year-old boy’s report of sex with a much older man led Bexar County deputies to arrest a 67-year-old suspect on Saturday, Sheriff Javier Salazar announced. The man was taken into custody at a home on Riel Road and booked into the Bexar County Jail.
According to investigators, the teen told deputies he met the older man through social media and later engaged in sexual activity. The boy’s mother reported the incident and used the Life360 app to track his location, guiding deputies to the residence. Once there, investigators say the man provided information that helped lead to his arrest, as reported by KENS5.
The case is unfolding as the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office leans harder into online predation and child-exploitation investigations. In April the agency announced an undercover operation that led to five arrests, underscoring the department’s focus on online child-exploitation cases, according to KSAT.
What Investigators Say Happened
Deputies with BCSO’s Human Exploitation Unit say the 16-year-old and the 67-year-old communicated on social platforms before meeting in person. The teen’s mother used Life360 to track him and alerted deputies, who went to the Riel Road home.
Once on scene, deputies took the man into custody. He faces a charge of sexual assault of a child, KENS5 reported.
Possible Charges and Legal Context
Under Texas law, sexual assault of a child is a felony offense. The statute defining sexual assault is set out in the Texas Penal Code. A conviction can carry significant prison time and other penalties if prosecutors secure a guilty verdict.
