Dr. Jonathan Desposorio, a 30-year-old UT Health San Antonio physician, is out of the hospital after a predawn dog walk north of downtown ended with him critically wounded by gunfire. The April 22 shooting near East Euclid Avenue and East Evergreen Street sent him first to Brooke Army Medical Center, then to University Hospital, and San Antonio police say they are still investigating and searching for whoever pulled the trigger.
University Hospital confirmed Wednesday that Desposorio had been released following lengthy stays at both Brooke Army Medical Center and University Hospital, according to News 4 San Antonio. The update fills a weeks-long information gap between the April shooting and this latest official word on his condition.
Officers responded around 5:30 a.m. on April 22 to reports of gunfire in the 900 block of East Euclid Avenue and found Desposorio lying in the street with a single gunshot wound to his upper body, as reported by KSAT. He was rushed to Brooke Army Medical Center in critical condition before later receiving additional care at University Hospital.
What police are telling reporters
Investigators said Desposorio’s phone and wallet were still on him at the scene, a detail that led them to say robbery likely was not the motive. Officers also told reporters that he does not remember the incident, per News 4 San Antonio. Homicide detectives are canvassing the neighborhood and reviewing nearby camera footage as they work to identify suspects.
About Desposorio and the neighborhood
Desposorio is identified in public records and his online profile as a second-year OB-GYN resident at UT Health San Antonio who completed his medical degree at UT Health in 2024, according to the San Antonio Express-Ne\s. Records also list him as living in an apartment on North St. Mary’s Street across from the UT Health Science Center, placing the scene of the shooting just steps from where he lived and worked.
How to tip investigators
Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call the San Antonio Police Department’s non-emergency line at 210-207-7273 or contact Crime Stoppers, per the City of San Antonio. Officials say that if someone is in immediate danger, residents should call 911.
