Hard Pressed Burgers, the smash-burger food-truck favorite locals have chased all over town, has finally parked for good in San Marco. The crew opened its first brick-and-mortar on Hendricks Avenue on Thursday, sliding into a storefront beside the neighborhood wine shop. The compact counter and bar-style spot brings the truck’s famously stripped-down menu into a walk-in setting for the first time, with a short list of smash burgers, fries and house sauces, including those fried-onion, Oklahoma-style burgers regulars swear by.
As reported by the Jacksonville Business Journal, owners Eddie Evans and Justin Pa'ala cut the ribbon on the Hendricks Avenue location Thursday after years of operating two popular food trucks and making the rounds with frequent pop-up collaborations. The outlet notes the new shop sits directly next door to Boudreau Wine & Company and is designed to plug a hole in San Marco’s restaurant lineup.
From Food Trucks To Hendricks Avenue
The leap from the street to a permanent storefront has been brewing for months. The owners told Jacksonville Today they originally hoped to flip the open sign earlier in the spring while keeping their trucks in regular rotation around town. "San Marco and Murray Hill are kind of just like OG spots," co-owner Justin Pa'ala told the outlet, framing the new shop as a neighborhood hangout first, not a special-occasion destination.
Menu And The Space Itself
Coverage from WhatNow says the San Marco storefront sticks to the truck’s minimalist playbook, while adding indoor seating, bar-top and bar-window service, plus beer and wine. Co-owner Pa'ala told Business Debut the restaurant will double as a testing ground for new sandwiches and sides, even as the food trucks keep working events around the region.
How It Fits In San Marco
Local reporting notes the new burger joint has taken over the Hendricks Avenue space that previously housed Good Dough donuts and is located at 1636 Hendricks Ave. The Jax Daily Record reported the neighboring wine shop opened last year, and neighborhood watchers say Hard Pressed adds a quick-casual option to a corridor that has seen a steady rhythm of openings and reinvestment.
Owners say the San Marco restaurant marks the next phase for a business that built its following on streetside service and collaborations, and they have indicated they will consider additional permanent locations if this one hits its stride. As the Jacksonville Business Journal noted, the team expects to keep the trucks rolling while the Hendricks Avenue storefront settles in as a new neighborhood hub.
