Santa Clarita's favorite Hanasaki Sushi is packing up its omakase magic and heading for Porter Ranch, where it will take over the former Sushi Ko space at 19300 Rinaldi St., Suite G. Owner Johnny Younan and his team are aiming for a November opening after a full renovation, with plans to recreate the intimate, date-night feel that turned the original into a go-to destination.
According to What Now Los Angeles, the Porter Ranch location clocks in at about 1,700 square feet and is set to feature an L-shaped sushi bar, low lighting, and a red, black, and gray palette. The team reportedly pounced on the space as soon as it opened up, after the Instagram account @whatsnewsfv spotted signs of activity. Younan told What Now Los Angeles, "We went from a neighborhood sushi spot to a destination," adding that "people have been begging us to open in the Valley."
From Santa Clarita to the Valley
Hanasaki Sushi lists its Santa Clarita home base at 19315 Plum Canyon Rd., Suite A, and highlights a rotating, omakase-focused menu led by chef Edy. The restaurant’s online menu and ordering platform outline lunch and dinner service and spotlight seasonal specials and a curated sake selection, positioning Hanasaki as a higher-end player in the local sushi landscape.
Space, Design, and Timeline
What Now Los Angeles notes that the Porter Ranch space will undergo a full renovation before opening, and Younan told the outlet the team is taking the time to "do it right" for both staff and guests. He also pointed out that his return to the restaurant world came after 26 years in corporate life, and that the new outpost is intended to mirror the "high-end neighborhood sushi" experience Hanasaki already offers in Santa Clarita.
The new restaurant will land in the Porter Ranch Shopping Center at 19300 Rinaldi St., a neighborhood strip center that counts Amazon Fresh among its key tenants, according to Athena Property Management. Local records indicate the suite previously housed Sushi Ko at the same address, and the Sushi Ko listing on Menu With Price suggests Hanasaki will be stepping into an existing restaurant footprint rather than starting from a blank retail shell.
For now, Hanasaki Sushi notes that it does not accept reservations and typically seats guests on a first-come, first-served basis, a policy that may carry over to Porter Ranch. Followers can keep an eye on the restaurant’s Instagram and official site for buildout updates and an exact opening date, and the team says it will share a firm timeline once construction is finished.
