Milwaukee’s near west side turned into an active crime scene Thursday night after reports of a shooting behind The Rave/Eagles Club near 24th Street and Michigan Avenue. Multiple squad cars packed the area while investigators dropped evidence markers in the street. As of late Thursday night, police had not said whether anyone was hurt, and few details were available while the scene remained active.
Police on scene
Officers marked shell casings and other evidence along N. 24th Street and in the parking lot behind the venue, where several squads were stationed as detectives worked the case, according to WISN. The call came in before 10 p.m. Thursday, and investigators were still on the block late into the night, the station reported.
Where it happened
The Rave/Eagles Club, a long-running concert complex on Milwaukee’s near west side, sits in a tangle of parking lots and back entrances that feed out onto 24th Street near Michigan Avenue. The venue’s official address is 2401 W. Wisconsin Ave., according to VISIT Milwaukee, and it regularly draws late-night crowds for concerts and festivals. That kind of layout can funnel both car and foot traffic around the building when shows let out.
Investigation under way
Police have not released any information about possible victims or suspects, and the case remains under active investigation, WISN reported. Officers have asked anyone who was in the area, or who may have video or other information, to contact investigators as they continue canvassing the neighborhood.
Local context
The shooting comes amid a run of gun violence across Milwaukee. Last week, Hoodline reported a fatal shooting near 24th Street and Lapham, highlighting ongoing concerns about safety in several neighborhoods. Police say they are working multiple shooting investigations across the city this month and are again appealing to the public for tips as detectives sort through leads.
