A 33-year-old man was shot and killed Monday night near the intersection of 24th and Lapham on Milwaukee’s southwest side, authorities say. The gunfire broke out around 10:30 p.m. near Reiske Park and drew a heavy police response that stretched into the overnight hours.
Police comb the scene
According to WISN 12 News, officers were seen canvassing the area with a K-9 unit and flashlights, and evidence markers were visible in the street and in the grass near the park. Police told the station the victim died at the scene. No arrests have been announced, and detectives said they were searching for the person who fired the shots. Video from the scene showed investigators working into the early morning hours.
Near Reiske Park
The shooting happened close to Reiske Park, a small neighborhood green space at South 24th and West Lapham. The park is listed at 1640 S. 24th St., according to the City of Milwaukee. Community groups have been organizing events at the park this spring, including plans for a farmers market, as reported by the Milwaukee Neighborhood News Service. Because the park sits at a residential intersection, investigators are asking anyone who saw or heard anything to come forward.
Investigation and how to help
Milwaukee police have asked anyone with information to contact the department. The Milwaukee Police Department's Office of Public Relations lists the department's non-emergency number and media contacts on its site at mkepdpio.org. The department's Quarter 1 review shows homicide and non-fatal shooting totals declined in early 2026 compared with the same period in 2025, though detectives say every homicide remains a priority for investigators (Milwaukee Police Department Quarter 1 Review). Anyone with tips can reach MPD's non-emergency line at (414) 933-4444 or visit the department's communications page for more contact options.
