Shortly after noon on Wednesday, a small single-engine airplane went down near the south end of Conroe–North Houston Regional Airport, and everyone on board walked away without a scratch. The plane wound up upright in a soggy, low-lying patch just off the runway, where airport and county crews moved in fast to check on the scene.
Rapid response at the field
According to Click2Houston, Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting crews got the call from the control tower and AR-1 rolled out, reaching the aircraft in about 90 seconds. The plane was found upright roughly 150 yards off the runway, and Montgomery County Hospital District EMS checked out the passengers before sending them on their way to reunite with friends and family. No injuries were reported.
Wildfire trainees were nearby
A group of wildland firefighters enrolled in the Texas Interagency Wildfire Academy happened to be training in the woods near the airport and made it to the crash site ahead of other emergency responders, according to Conroe News. The academy’s spring session, held May 5–14 at a new Conroe campus, brought dozens of state and local personnel into the area.
Cause still under review
Officials have not yet released any information about what caused the aircraft to go down, Click2Houston reports. Local authorities secured the area while investigators and airport staff examined the plane and the surrounding ground.
