Three years after two teenagers were shot and killed outside a South Side apartment complex on Pleasanton Road, their mothers say the grief has not loosened its grip and the case is still without an arrest. The victims, 15-year-old Angel Ray Garcia and 19-year-old Gregorio Ricardo Cordova-Mejia, were found dead in a breezeway in late July 2022.
Gregorio's mother, Maria Tellez, and Angel Ray’s mother, Jesica Martinez, say they keep speaking up so their sons are not reduced to a forgotten headline. "It's still hard, it's still difficult," Tellez said, recalling that she "actually found my son myself." As reported by KSAT, the families quietly mark anniversaries and hold private vigils to keep their boys close and the case in public view.
Where the case stands
Public records show the killings happened on July 29, 2022, in the breezeway of building 28 at the Union Pines/Union Pines Apartments in the 1700 block of Pleasanton Road. According to Crime Stoppers, both teenagers died at the scene. The case is listed under San Antonio Police Department case number SAPD22162250.
Families push for leads
Refusing to let the trail go cold, relatives have tried to keep the investigation in front of the community, paying for a billboard and gathering money to build up a reward that might shake loose new tips. As reported by KSAT, the families refreshed the billboard and increased the offer so the total reward now stands at $10,000.
Legal note
The public case posting classifies the killings as a capital-murder matter and states that tips leading to an arrest could qualify for a reward. The online listing also shows that investigators have not yet identified a suspect and urges anyone with information to reach out through the tip line contacts listed on the case page.
San Antonio police continue to ask anyone who knows something to call 210-224-STOP (7867) or submit information through the P3 Tips app. The families say even the smallest detail, such as a shirt color, a vehicle, or a familiar voice, could be the clue that finally breaks the case.
