What started as a routine Saturday traffic stop in Splendora did not stay routine for long. Police say a driver accused of multiple traffic violations refused to follow orders, briefly struggled with officers and was ultimately found carrying a firearm before being hauled off to jail on several charges.
Traffic Stop Turns Into Scuffle And Weapons Arrest, Police Say
According to the City of Splendora Police Department, officers pulled the vehicle over after spotting multiple traffic violations. They say they repeatedly ordered the driver to step out, but he refused and grew uncooperative, leading to a brief struggle before officers pulled him from the car.
Once the driver was detained, officers say they discovered a firearm and booked him on allegations that include unlawful possession of a weapon, resisting arrest and interference with public duties. The department also noted that dispatch could not locate a return on the vehicle and publicly commended the officers for “maintaining control of a rapidly evolving situation while keeping the public safe.”
Charges And Legal Context
Texas treats weapons and obstruction-related offenses as serious business. Firearms and other weapons rules are laid out in Chapter 46 of the Texas Penal Code, while resisting arrest and similar interference offenses are covered in Chapter 38 of the Texas Penal Code.
Depending on a defendant’s history and the precise circumstances, unlawful carrying or possession can land as either a misdemeanor or a felony, with penalties that vary by statute. Which specific counts prosecutors ultimately file will hinge on the available evidence and any prior record.
How This Fits Splendora’s Recent Policing Push
The weekend arrest is the latest in a string of enforcement actions the department has spotlighted. Recently, Splendora officers used a vehicle-mounted Grappler device to end a high-speed pursuit, and they also passed along tips that helped lead to a large interstate narcotics seizure involving 361 pounds of methamphetamine.
Those efforts were previously detailed in Hoodline coverage in Grappler Gadget Nabs Splendora Driver and 361-Pound Meth Bust, part of a recent pattern that highlights the department’s focus on traffic interdiction and weapons enforcement.
Records And What Happens Next
In its post, the department said the man was transported to the Montgomery County Jail. Booking details can be checked through the county’s online roster at the Montgomery County Jail inmate lookup site.
The City of Splendora Police Department did not identify the driver by name. Authorities typically release booking or charging documents once prosecutors have made formal filings, which is when more details about the case are likely to become public.
