Milwaukee’s Big Gig is ready to roll, but it is going to cost transit riders a bit more to avoid the parking lot crush this summer. Summerfest organizers and the Milwaukee County Transit System have detailed a mix of dedicated shuttles, frequent BRT service and regular bus routes serving the lakefront. The festival runs three weekends - June 18-20, June 25-27 and July 2-4 - and officials say riders should plan for updated fares and payment options compared with recent years. Whether you are coming from the suburbs or downtown, there will be several ways to leave the car at home and skip the long lines for parking.
As reported by FOX6 News Milwaukee, MCTS will operate three shuttle routes that run about every 15 minutes from the College Avenue, Brown Deer and Hales Corners park-and-ride lots. Round-trip shuttle fares are set at $18 for riders ages 12 and up and $9 for youth, seniors and people with qualifying disabilities, and parking at the park-and-ride lots is free on a first-come, first-served basis.
Shuttles And Regular Routes
According to Ride MCTS, the shuttles provide non-stop service to the Mid Gate entrance, while regular MCTS routes - especially the GreenLine and routes 15, 18 and 30 - stop within walking distance of the grounds. Riders are encouraged to use the Umo app or Ride MCTS trip planner to line up connections and dodge the worst of the crowds during peak set times.
Connect 1 BRT Stops Near The North Gate
The CONNECT 1 Bus Rapid Transit line will stop at The Couture transit concourse on Michigan Avenue and Lincoln Memorial Drive, putting riders a short walk from Summerfest’s North Gate, according to FOX6 News Milwaukee. Officials also point to Connect 1’s Saturday frequency of about every 10 minutes, along with onboard USB charging and accessible boarding platforms.
Payments And Accessibility
MCTS introduced contactless tap-to-pay this spring, so riders can now use Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Apple Pay, Google Pay or a smartwatch for full fares, while WisGo cards and the Umo app remain the way to access reduced fares and U-Pass/CVP benefits, per MCTS. The agency also reminds passengers that all festival buses are accessible for people using mobility devices.
The higher shuttle price lands against a backdrop of tight transit budgets and recent service adjustments. MCTS acknowledged a budget gap and announced service reductions last year, a context officials say has shaped both fare and service decisions.
